At G-Crystal Plastic Industries, we manufacture solid polycarbonate sheets that combine exceptional strength, transparency and formability — the choice for B2B applications where clarity and impact resistance both matter.
With impact resistance up to 250 times that of glass, light transmission up to 90% and half the weight of glass, our polycarbonate flat sheets deliver durability and design flexibility across glazing, security, machine guarding and signage.

What Are Solid Polycarbonate Sheets?
Solid polycarbonate sheets are full-thickness panels extruded from polycarbonate resin, with no internal chambers or voids. Also known as polycarbonate flat sheets or compact sheets, they are the clearest and strongest product in the polycarbonate range.
The defining property is impact behaviour: under force, a solid sheet deforms and absorbs the energy rather than shattering. This is what makes it the specified material for security glazing, machine guarding and any application where breakage carries a safety risk.
Available from 1 to 12 mm, all our sheets are extruded from 100% virgin resin with a co-extruded UV layer, and carry a 10-year warranty against yellowing.

Standard sheet area: 12.18 m². Density 1.20 g/cm³. Light transmission for clear grade; tinted and embossed finishes transmit less by design.
Reading the table: a solid sheet weighs less than half the equivalent in glass at every thickness — 87.7 kg against 182.7 kg in 6 mm. That difference carries through the whole project: lighter framing, easier handling, lower installation cost.
Light transmission decreases slightly as thickness increases, since light passes through more material. Even at 12 mm, an 82% clear sheet remains brighter than most alternatives.

Solid Polycarbonate Sheet Price
Polycarbonate is priced by the kilogram — the method that reflects the material actually supplied.
| Thickness | Weight/m² | Cost per m² (FOB) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 mm | 1.20 kg | $3.00 – 4.20 |
| 2 mm | 2.40 kg | $6.00 – 8.40 |
| 3 mm | 3.60 kg | $9.00 – 12.60 |
| 4 mm | 4.80 kg | $12.00 – 16.80 |
| 6 mm | 7.20 kg | $18.00 – 25.20 |
| 8 mm | 9.60 kg | $24.00 – 33.60 |
| 10 mm | 12.00 kg | $30.00 – 42.00 |
| 12 mm | 14.40 kg | $36.00 – 50.40 |
Factory price: $2.50–3.50 USD/kg FOB. One sheet covers 12.18 m².
Price per m² = thickness (mm) × 1.20 × price/kg
Solid is the most expensive polycarbonate per square metre, because it contains the most material. Where clarity is not critical, a hollow panel covers the same area for a fraction of the cost — worth confirming with the customer before specifying solid on a large roof.

Container loading
Solid sheet is dense: it reaches a container’s payload limit before the volume limit, unlike hollow panels which fill the space first. One tonne of thin solid occupies roughly 0.83 m³.
This makes solid the ideal partner in a mixed load — adding it to a container of twin wall or multiwall uses the remaining weight capacity without extra freight, lowering the cost per square metre across the whole shipment.
Solid Polycarbonate Sheet Colours
We produce solid sheets in clear, opal, bronze, smoke grey, blue and green as standard, with custom RAL available for architectural projects at approximately 5% surcharge.
| Colour | Light transmission | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Clear | up to 90% | Glazing, skylights, display |
| Opal | ≈ 45% | Diffused light, partitions, lighting covers |
| Bronze | ≈ 35% | Solar control, façades |
| Smoke grey | ≈ 35% | Neutral shading, canopies |
| Blue / green | varies | Architectural, pool enclosures |
Standard colours carry no price premium. See the full range of tinted sheets.
Fabrication and Installation
- Cutting — utility knife scores and snaps up to 3 mm; fine-tooth circular saw (60 teeth minimum) above that. Keep the protective film on throughout. Full guide: how to cut polycarbonate sheets
- Drilling — oversize holes by 3 mm per side. The material expands about 3 mm per metre, and a tight hole cracks by the first summer.
- Cold bending — minimum radius 175 × thickness, no heat required. A 4 mm sheet bends to a 700 mm radius.
- Thermoforming — line bending and vacuum forming are both possible; dry the sheet at 120 °C for 2–4 hours beforehand to avoid bubbles.
- UV face outward — marked on the protective film. Reversed, the sheet yellows within months.
- Neutral silicone only — acidic silicone attacks polycarbonate.
- Cleaning — lukewarm water and mild soap, soft cloth. Never solvents, ammonia or abrasives: they strip the UV layer irreversibly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are solid polycarbonate sheets?
Full-thickness panels extruded from polycarbonate resin with no internal chambers. Also called polycarbonate flat sheets or compact sheets, they offer the highest clarity and impact resistance in the polycarbonate range — up to 90% light transmission and 250 times the impact resistance of glass.
How thick do solid polycarbonate sheets come?
From 1 to 12 mm as standard, with non-standard gauges such as 2.2 mm or 4.3 mm produced to order for volume programmes.
How much does a solid polycarbonate sheet weigh?
1.2 kg/m² per millimetre of thickness. A 6 mm sheet weighs 7.2 kg/m², or 87.7 kg for a standard 2,100 × 5,800 mm panel — less than half the equivalent in glass.
How much do solid polycarbonate sheets cost?
Factory pricing is $2.50 to 3.50 USD per kilogram FOB. In 4 mm at 4.8 kg/m², that works out to roughly $12.00 to $16.80 per m².
Solid or hollow — which should I choose?
Solid when optical clarity or maximum impact strength decides the job. Hollow twin wall or multiwall when insulation, weight and cost per square metre lead — a hollow panel covers the same area for a fraction of the material cost.
Do solid polycarbonate sheets yellow?
Not with co-extruded UV protection, which blocks 99.9% of ultraviolet radiation. Our sheets carry a 10-year warranty against yellowing. Untreated polycarbonate does yellow within a few seasons outdoors.
Can solid polycarbonate be bent?
Yes. Cold bending needs no heat, with a minimum radius of 175 times the thickness — a 4 mm sheet bends to 700 mm. Hot bending and thermoforming are also possible after drying the sheet.
How do I cut solid polycarbonate sheet?
A utility knife scores and snaps sheets up to 3 mm. Above that, use a fine-tooth circular saw with at least 60 teeth, keeping the protective film in place.
What light transmission do solid sheets achieve?
Up to 90% in clear at 1 mm, decreasing slightly with thickness to around 82% at 12 mm. Tinted and embossed finishes transmit less by design.
Are solid polycarbonate sheets suitable for greenhouses?
They work where clarity is the priority, but most growers specify hollow panels instead: multiwall insulates several times better at a fraction of the cost per m². Solid suits smaller structures and viewing panels.
What is the minimum order quantity?
5 tonnes or one 20 ft container. Samples are available for technical qualification before ordering.
Do you supply custom sizes and colours?
Yes. Length is cut to order up to 11,800 mm, and custom RAL colours are produced for architectural projects at approximately 5% surcharge.
